Madison Poser has been a member of the Sault Ste Marie PrideFest committee for three years now. She is a trans woman who has found tremendous support through the Sault Pride Community.
Madison is a talented graphic designer, who has been lending her skills to the Sault Pride Community.
With COVID, Pridefest looked a little different this past summer. Madison designed lawn signs so people could still show their community support in the absence of the parade.
Madison shares that the Sault Pride Community has been growing and gaining traction every year up until the COVID restrictions.
“Up until COVID hit, our pride fest was growing every single year. Like, it got so big. I think it was, six years ago there were like 20 people maybe? And now it’s gone up to like hundreds of people like showing up to do this walk and I think that’s amazing.”
She tells SaultOnline about the importance of doing something for the community. With this past Pridefest not being able to gather, putting out the lawn signs was a great initiative. “I think that was great for spreading awareness that we’re here, that we’re everywhere.”
Madison shares her views on International Women’s Day.
“I think International Women’s Day is a great day, because anyone who identifies as a woman, whether you’re trans or lesbian, or bisexual, or asexual or anywhere on the spectrum, you can be a part of that community of women on that day and feel like you’re you’re part of something. I think that’s wonderful. There’s sort of like a unity and solidarity among women on that day, like no matter who you are.”
Madison is currently working on a website for the Sault Ste Marie Pride, so stay tuned for more news on that.
