Firefighters rescue individual from Bay Street blaze


On Tuesday, April 27th 2021, shortly before 6:00 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service crews responded to a call of a residential fire in the 600 block of Bay Street.

Upon arrival, there was visible black smoke in the one of the units of the multi-unit residential dwelling. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire.
Upon investigation, a SSMFS Fire Prevention Officer determined the cause of the fire related to smoking materials.

As a result of the fire, there is fire damage to the unit. A resident was taken to Sault Area Hospital with injuries sustained from the fire.
