Ontario reports 4,447 new cases of COVID-19 today, record test positivity rate of 10.5 per cent

The province is reporting 4,447 new cases of COVID-19 today, 19 additional deaths and a record test positivity rate of 10.5 per cent. The seven day average of cases is now at 4,347, up by more than 500 cases just one week ago.

The federal government announced yesterday that it was in the process of mobilizing resources and coordinating with other provinces not hit as hard by the third wave to send health care workers and other support to help Ontario out as it continues to battle record breaking cases driven by variants like B.1.17, B.1.351 and P.1.

As of this morning there were 2,202 people hospitalized in Ontario with COVID related illness, of those 755 in ICU and 516 on ventilators.
