Flames could be seen from Highway 17 and OPP were helping with traffic as personnel from five different fire departments worked to put out the blaze last night.
Sandra Ebare lives nearby and stayed up until 2:30 tending to her over 500 heads of livestock while the fire burned nearby.
“It was bad and yes it was scary we have livestock here,” said Ebare. “It smelt really bad, Goulais River Fire Department did a excellent job and so did the others.”
Goulais Fire and Rescue Chief Jeff Bowen was able to share details with us this morning.
“At approximately 10:15 p.m. last night we received a call for a fire at the local dump, as we arrived a large section of the dump was on fire, it took us several hours to extinguish,” said Bowen. “We had help from Aweres, Batchawana and Searchmont, MNR firefighters responded as well to check it out.”
