A group of about 30 individuals got together last Saturday, to attack a problem which has reared its head, city wide.

Saturday morning, they gathered in Jamestown to clean this section of the city, ridding it of garbage, needles and any other debris found.

This was the first annual Frank community clean-up, organized by the members of the Facebook group, Jamestown Strong.

In speaking with those gathered, many were frustrated that the City isn’t cleaning up garbage in their parks including the sometimes biohazardous materials.

The DeSimon family, who had lived in the area for over 50 years, came down to help out and reminisce about what it used to be like to live there.

They told stories of the various businesses, and homes the family owned near Al’s pub, while they picked up garbage.

At the end of the day, they hauled a pick-up truck full of garbage away to the landfill, leaving Jamestown a cleaner place, if only for a little while.

  1. That’s Frank and others much appreciated. I do agree that our city does very little to keep our city clean and then they do may other things that are not on our cities priority list. They need to pay much more attention to our city and not their pockets. Time to thinks how we vote. We need honest workers not stuffed shirts & people passing jobs on the other family members.

  2. Why do we find out about this clean up a week after the event happened. I’m sure there might have been more people willing to help out if we knew before the clean up happened.

  3. Once again residents have to step up and do the work that that city is mandated and paid to do but neglects to.
Maybe the city should put another travel ad in MacLeans to attract more residents to do their jobs.

  4. Good job. More people should follow this example including the mayor and his merry band of misfits. It wouldn’t hurt them one bit to contribute cleaning up the areas that they like to ignore if at all possible.
