On June 17, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 47-year-old Michael Greganti with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs.

Around 11:42 a.m. officers responded to a call of a possible impaired driver in the area of Fourth Line East and Peoples Road. Upon arrival officers located a grey SUV in the ditch on Fourth Line East. Officers determined the accused was driving the vehicle and upon speaking with the accused officers develop grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.

He was arrested and a subsequent search found the accused to be wearing a police issued vest. He was provided a drug recognition evaluation in which he performed poorly. While in the cell area of the Police Services Building the accused caused damage to a room while contacting a lawyer. He is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, possession of stolen property and mischief under $5,000.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26, 2021.

  1. The rate of impaired driving by drugs seems to be significantly high.
Advocates of cannabis legalization openly declared that regularly cannabis users were safer drivers since they generally didn’t drive and many users even stated that cannabis made them safer drivers.
Should be interesting to see the results of the insurance industry reports after a few years of legalization. Hospitals are also reporting complications from cannabis overuse and accidental dangerous consumption of edibles by children.
This isn’t turning out the way most people expected.
