Ozhawa Anung Kwe: creating virtual spaces

Teddy Syrette, spirit name Ozhawa Anung Kwe (Yellow Star Woman) is a Wolf Clan, 2Spirit Anishinaabe Storyteller & Advocate from Batchewana First Nation.

They are hosting two workshops at the end of the month in celebration of Indigenous History and Pride month. The first workshop is for 2Spirit, Indigi-Queer, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ only, happening June 27th, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and is free to those who attend.

The second workshop is on June 29th, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, for allies and anyone who wishes to attend, and it is pay what you can.

Teddy brings such life and energy into the workshops. They lead through humour and interpersonal engagement with participants. They have such a welcoming, family-style way of hosting space, making everyone feel included.

The workshop will bring participants through a brief 2Spirit & LGBTQ+ 101, and participate in part of a 2Spirit/Queer- Trans Indigenous Person (2S/QTIP) Wellness cycle. This will consider the impacts of colonization on Indigenous people, and focus on 2S/QTIP experiences and histories.

Teddy presents these ideas through an interactive, growing web of relations and words.

Participants are invited to discuss experiences, and what 2Spirit, Indigi-queer and Queer-Trans Indigenous People’s futures can look like.

All resources shared in the workshops will be available to participants following the event.
