An observant resident may have prevented a much larger incident earlier this evening.

At approximately 5 p.m. Sault Fire Services responded to an abandoned structure in the 200 block of North Street, after a local resident called in smoke coming from a window.
Upon arrival, we witnessed firefighters working to put out what appeared to be a small fire in the second floor of the structure.
SaultOnline has learned there were people seen running from the structure after the fire started.

In a possibly related matter, Sault Police Services were seen on St. George’s Avenue near north street taking one person into custody.
Sault Fire Services remained on scene for over an hour dealing with the fire, police were not long before clearing the scene with one individual in the back of a Police Services Vehicle.
Police and Enbridge Gas are still on scene at this hour.
