Firefighters turned the fire over to the MNR crews when they arrived. The fire had spread to root systems and the expertise of the MNR crews was requested.
SaultOnline spoke with the person who reported the call, he said he believes it may have been a stray campfire which started the incident.
Original Story – At approximately 4:20 today, Sault Fire Services was called to a brush fore on the east end.
Upon arrival on the Batchawana First Nations reserve, off Gran Street, they encountered a significant fire in the bush.
Pumpers 3,4 and 1 were on scene for over an hour fighting the fire and chasing the smouldering remains.
Firefighters remain on scene at this hour.
