UPDATED – Another collision closes 17 north of the city

UPDATE 10 p.m. – SaultOnline has learned at least three motorcyclists were taken to hospital after the collision. According to a family friend with knowledge of the situation.

One person is currently in surgery, one person is in stable condition and one person has been airlifted south for treatment.

We will continue to update only when we have more information.

Original story 6 p.m. –

In the second serious accident in two days, Highway 17 is closed again, this time near Goulais River.

Multiple pictures of the scene have been sent to our newsroom which we aren’t showing here. According to a witness account multiple motorcycles hit a vehicle near the Timberland on Highway 17 and then the vehicle hit another motorcycle.

The roadway is closed in both directions. There is no update on when it may be re-opened.

  2. this north hwy is a death trap needs more center lane passing. it took 25 yrs to get 4 lane from sault to st Joe’s.people in charge think it’s a one horse town. how many people have to die

    • People shouldn’t be in such a rush. I got passed on a double solid by motorcycles, transports, and many cars!! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! It doesn’t take much to wait until the passing lane comes up.
