In the world’s modern day hieroglyphics, the emoji keyboard may be getting yet another update and just like their ancient predecessor, you may still not understand what some of them mean.
Over the weekend #worldemojiday both trended on social media and revealed the next emojis which are up for consideration, to be potentially added to your electronic devices.
A pregnant man, melting smiley face, saluting hand, a troll and heart shaped hands are among the over 20 new emojis up for addition to the new language. The Unicode Consortium will get together and approve some or all of these in September.
In the past, the consortium has approved women with a beard, a transgender flag, and multiple mixed skin tone handshakes to the list of approved emojis.
This latest installment, version 14.0 of emojis has been delayed due to the pandemic, according to the Unicode Consortium.
“Under the current circumstances, we’ve heard that our contributors have a lot on their plates, at the moment, and decided it was in the best interests of our volunteers and the organizations that depend on the standard to push out our release date,” Mark Davis, president of the consortium, said in a statement at the time.
Will the new emojis ever be as popular as the heart, LOL, or thumbs up? If you could have any emoji made, what would it be?
