Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with local gold medalist, Jack Matier. Jack is an O.H.L defenseman who might have his dreams come true this weekend, by getting drafted into the N.H.L. Jack most recently played for team Canada at the U18 World Hockey Championships, from which he brought a gold medal back to his hometown. Jack and I spoke about how bringing that gold medal home was so special. We also spoke about how this tournament was a key point in Jack’s preparation for the N.H.L Entry Draft.
In discussion about his time in the O.H.L., Jack shares his favourite memory from playing for the Ottawa 67’s. We also touch on Jack’s father, who also played in the O.H.L, and won a memorial cup with the Greyhounds. Jack explains how his dad inspired him to play hockey and be who he is today.
To close out the interview, Jack and I took a deeper dive into what he brings to the table for N.H.L teams that are looking to add him to their organizations. Jack explains how his style of shutdown hockey can help any team win big games. Matier also speaks as to how he still has areas to improve on, and why he will never stop working on his game. Jack is expected to go mid to late in the third round of the N.H.L entry draft.
Jack Matier is a skilled and capable young man with strong leadership qualities that any team would be lucky to add to their roster. He is someone who will be a great teammate, and will always give it his all, both on and off the ice. It’s always great to see a good person who works hard, get rewarded for their hard work. It was a pleasure to speak with Jack Matier and we, at SaultOnline / ONNtv, along with the whole city, can’t wait to watch you play in the N.H.L.
Make sure to stay locked to ONNtv and SaultOnline as we follow Jack’s story. Please see the full interview that is attached to the story .
