Charged with Failure to Attend Court

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 6, 2021, a Bench Warrant was issued for an individual who failed to attend court on June 3, 2021 in the Town of Blind River.

On August 8, 2021, shortly after 9:00 p.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested the outstanding person on Government Road (Massey Bridge) in the Town of Massey and was transported to Blind River Detachment.

As a result, Randall AALTO, 33 years-of-age from Webbwood, was charged with:

  • Failure to Attend Court While on Release Order, contrary to section 145(2) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on August 9th, 2021.

Charged with Failure to Attend Court

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 8th, 2021, a Bench Warrant was issued for an individual who failed to attend court in the City of Elliot Lake on April 6, 2021.

On August 8, 2021, shortly after 5:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police OPP arrested the outstanding person on West Street in the Town of Blind River.

As a result, Morgan ARMSTRONG, 30 years-of-age from Sault Ste Marie, was charged with:

  • Failure to Attend Court While on Release Order, contrary to section 145(2) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on August 8th, 2021.

Charged with Break and Enter

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On August 8th, 2021, at approximately 10:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter in progress at a local church in the community of Serpent River First Nation.

Investigation determined, a side door to the church was forced open and a person was located in the building upon police arrival.

As a result, Russ SCHMITZ, 30 years-of-age, from Walford, was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Place-Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail To Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 7, 2021.

Charged with Spousal Assault

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON)- On August 7th, 2021, shortly after 7:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Highway 17 in the Village of Spragge within the Township of the North Shore.

Investigation determined one of the spouses in recent weeks was physically assaulted, threatened to damage property and had smashed a cell phone.

As a result of the investigation a 41 year-old from the Township of the North Shore was charged with:

  • Assault-Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Utter Threats-Damage Property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC
  • Mischief-Domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 2nd, 2021.
