Sault Ste. Marie Police Services, Victim of Virtual Ransomware Attack

Sault Police Station

On Thursday, August 26, 2021 we became aware of a virtual ransomware attack on our systems.

At no time was our ability to respond to calls for service compromised.

Our 9-1-1 system for Emergency calls was not effected. Our business line 705-949-6300, is also accessible for less urgent concerns. Members of the public can still access our Online Reporting system in order to report less urgent crimes.

Information Technology (IT) staff are working through the attack to regain access to effected systems. Our email system is down and there will be a delay responding to requests via email.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  1. I predict the perpetrators are based in Russia, China or India. All three countries have been well documented in the past of interfering with our politics & attempting to compromise our infrastructure.
