Active forest fire confirmed in Goulais

Update: Residents in the area are confirming on social media that are Fire Services with assistance from Algoma Power were able to extinguish the fire. Unconfirmed reports are that the fire was caused by a tree which had contacted power lines.

According to the MNDMNRF website, updates to the wildfire status in Ontario will not be made until tomorrow.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry confirmed one new forest fire in the Northeast region late this afternoon. Sault Ste Marie 2 is not yet under control at 0.1 of a hectare and is located on the south side of Robertson Lake road near Karalash Corner in the Goulais area.

There are currently eight other active fires in the region. Six of these are being observed and two are under control.
