Mayor acknowledges culture days, ovarian cancer

As part of the regularly scheduled council meeting, Mayor Christian Provenzano reads out proclamations on behalf of the city.

On Monday, he proclaimed September 24 to October 21st, 2021 the 12th annual Sault Ste. Marie Culture Days.

According to the proclamation “The cultural community has set up an annual national event, Culture Days, that would consolidate a number of cultural events under a common theme – “Re-Imagine” – across Canada by promoting the widest possible access to the arts, culture and heritage.”

The month of September was also recognized as Ovarian Cancer Month.

“The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area advocates for women’s health through local service projects, in particular the ovarian cancer awareness campaign, and they ask the community to join them in learning about one of the most deadly cancers among women;” and
“whereas Ovarian Cancer Canada strives to increase awareness of this disease, provides women care and supports research to change the outcomes for those living with the disease,” stated the mayor during the meeting.

Ovarian Cancer killed an estimated 1950 Canadians in 2020 according to the Canadian Cancer Society.
