As the Soo Greyhounds are gearing up for their 1st season in nearly 2 years, General Manager Kyle Rafits confirmed another commitment to the Program. The 2020 Seventh Round Selection Owen Allard has signed a standard player agreement and education package with the club. SaultOnline was made aware of this in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
Kyle Rafits spoke about Allard and his skill set. “Owen is an explosive skater that is very athletically gifted. Since we selected Owen a year ago, he just keeps improving and diligently working on his game. He’s a skilled player that is effective with and without the puck on his stick. We’re excited to partner with Owen and continue to help him to refine his skill-set.”
Last season the Ottawa native played 8 games between two separate clubs in France.With the Caen U17 club Allard scored 7 goals and added 3 assists in just four games played. Meanwhile the 6′ 1″, 181-lb forward recorded four goals and one assist in 4 games played with Caen U20 club. In 2019-20, Owen appeared in 39 games for the Kanata Lasers U18 AAA where he tallied up 12 goals and 15 assists in 39 regular season games.
Owen also told the media how he is excited to join such a great franchise like the Greyhounds. “I’m very lucky and thrilled to play for such a high class organization. The city is filled with amazing people that have great passion for the game of hockey. I’m beyond excited to play in front of the best fans in the CHL.”
The Hounds next game is a pre-season match vs the Sudbury Wolves on Saturday September 25th. This will be their 2nd pre-season game of this very young season as the team gets ready for the start of the regular season.
