Sault Citizens Remember 9/11 (Video)

5

We asked citizens of both Saults to tell us their respective recollections of where they were at on September 11, 2001, when they learned of the unfolding attacks.

We received over 250 responses on two separate Facebook pages.

From those, we selected a few and compiled them in this video montage intended to mark this event, and recognize it for the local and global impact that it had.

We want to thank each and every one of you who offered up your memories.

  1. I had just come off nightshift at Fire Station 4 in Sudbury. My wife and I sitting down for morning coffee. My neighbour phoned and said “Cliff…is your TV on…” we watched this terrible Incident play out in front of us. Initially It felt like a puch to the gut and heart at the same time…it still does. Returning to work that evening was surreal, however, when the first call of the shift came in the crew quickly focussed and responded . It struck me that Fire,Police and EMS were doing the same everywhere including NYC. As most of the world was still in a state of utter shock and awe at this terrible loss … First Responders continued to do what they do.

  2. I was at work and living away from home for the first time. We had Howard Stern live on on the radio like we did every morning. We could literally hear the explosion from the first plane hitting the building over his broadcast. The Howard started panicking after on of his staff heard about the plane. He was yelling at people in his studio to pull the coverings off all the windows to see what was going on as his office faced the direction of Twin Towers. Once confirmed from Howard what had happened we all ran out to the customer waiting room to watch CNN to see what was going on. As we were watching the news we unfortunately witnessed the second plane hit the second building and hearing about the Pentagon and the 4th plane. It is definitely the saddest moment in my history that I will never forget.

  3. My husband and I were getting ready to go for our morning walk. All of a sudden I saw when the jets flew through the trade center. I thought it was a movie, then I listened to the broadcast and I was in shock. We stood in front of the tv and couldn’t understand what we were seeing and hearing.
We went for our walk and talked about it. It was upsetting to think we had such evil people that would do this to others…it is still upsetting and can happen again.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones.
