A $50,000 donation on behalf of Soo Mill is helping to bring Sault Ste. Marie’s Downtown Plaza closer to its goal. The donation will support the play features for children to engage in while visiting the plaza.

“Soo Mill’s strong sense of community involvement is reflected through this donation. We are very appreciative that a local business recognizes and acknowledges the importance of the downtown plaza,” said Mayor Provenzano.

The Downtown Plaza will be an extraordinary, four-season showpiece with a public gathering space to celebrate, socialize and have fun. The plaza project is a critical component of the downtown revitalization strategy and an opportunity to enhance the downtown for generations to come.

“Soo Mill and our employees are honoured to support such an important community project. Sponsoring the playground is for our children to enjoy for years. This donation also provides another way for us to give back to the community that have helped our company succeed over the past century,” said Joel Rowswell, President of Soo Mill.

Join the community in supporting this important initiative. Tax receipts are available for individual donations over $25 and a community donation sign is included as a prominent fixture within the plaza. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available for the event stage, display screen, play features, equipment services and benches. All features and components included in the plaza address a specific need, audience or seasonal programming element.

“We are making good progress with our fundraising initiative. Creating this vibrant public space for all ages can have a significant impact on the life of local economies and attract business investments and tourism to our downtown. We are grateful to Soo Mill for recognizing the benefits of this space in our community,” said Tom Vair, Deputy CAO.

  1. Have always respected Soo Mill and their major community presence, but this huge donation to a pointless park doesn’t make any sense when there are so many other issues plaguing this city. Their money, though.

  2. So Soo Mill is feeding the ego of Provenzano and Vair. Why can’t they get it through their thick skulls that the majority of Saultites don’t want their tax dollars spent on this project, when there are much more important issues to attend to

  3. Majority of the Taxpayer’s do not want this plaza /park.We have enough parks in our Downtown core.
How this Mr Mayor how about taking this plaza money that you have raised and donated to the New Alcohol and Drug Treatment facility on Old Garden River Road .
We could call it The Mayor Provanzano Treatment Centre .
