St. Vincent Place’s Big Blue Food Drive needs volunteers

St. Vincent Place is excited to announce that its 11th annual Big Blue Food Drive is all set for September 25, and we’re looking for volunteers to help with the event.

We are in need of volunteer driver/runner pairs with vehicles to drive the specified routes collecting donations. While we usually accept single volunteers willing to be paired up, in order to keep all volunteers safe, this year we’d like to ensure that pairs sign up together. These volunteers would need to arrive at St. Vincent Place by 9:45 am and can expect to spend about one to two hours helping out, depending on the route and size of your vehicle.

We’re also looking for individuals to help sort the donations once they arrive at our food bank, from about 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. (Volunteers aren’t required to stay for the entire time if they’d rather help for a shorter period.) These individuals will be required to wear a mask while sorting.

For those who want to help out while getting some fresh air, we are also looking for volunteers to help drop off flyers in mailboxes (in their own neighbourhoods or beyond) in the week leading up to the event. This is a great way to help those in need in our community, and for high school students to collect some volunteer hours.

Interested volunteers can contact Sara by email at [email protected], or by calling 705-253-2770 ext. 4 to sign up or for more information.

What is our Big Blue Food Drive?
The event is a one-day push to help fill our food bank for the start of winter, and it makes donating easy.  All you have to do is fill any box or bag with non-perishable goods and put it out to your curb by 10:00 am on September 25, then our volunteers come collect the donations. Helping your community doesn’t get any easier!
