As predicted, gas prices spike… again, so how do you save fuel?

Gas prices at one station in the Soo as of 3:30 p.m. Oct. 13, 2021 (Dan Gray/SaultOnline.com)

If you are headed to the pumps to fill up on your motor vehicle propellant, be prepared to pay extra for the privilege.

Earlier this afternoon readers alerted SaultOnline to a gas price hike at many local stations. What was 144.9/litre last week has now jumped up to 149.9/litre. A 40 litre fill up will now cost you $60, we know, we just did it.

If you want to save some of that precious petrol, you are advised to do numerous things by Natural Resources Canada.

  • Accelerate Gently
  • Anticipate Traffic
  • Maintain a steady speed
  • Avoid high speeds
  • Coast to decelerate

They also advise not to idle your vehicle, make sure your tire pressure is correct, remove roof or bicycle racks and watch how much weight you carry.

There is no word on if the prices will ever come back down, and in an article published earlier this month, it has been speculated that we may see prices continue to climb all the way up to $2.00/litre by Christmas.

Thank-you for choosing SaultOnline/ONNtv as your source for news in Sault Ste. Marie.

  2. Don’t kid yourselves…. No matter who you voted for, all this stuff would still be in effect, just explained in a different way… NO government ever rolls back anything that makes them money… Some of you little children need to get out of Moms basement and take a history lesson or two on how the country actually works, and has worked since inception no matter who was steering it…..LOLOL…

  3. I drive a diesel Passat, way better than electric $70 to fill and get 800 to 1000 per tank. I also invested in oil companies which pay over 6% dividends. I’m hoping the price goes up and that’s when my investments go up.

  4. When converted to Canadian money and measurement Soo Mich reg gas is 40 cents a liter or about $1.85 per Canadian gallon cheaper. How sad that there were enough suckers to vote Mr. Dressup back in to screw over the country even worse than he has already.
