Budget 2022: Virtual Town Hall

Municipal budget decisions set the funding for the programs and services we depend on to maintain our quality of life here in Sault Ste. Marie.

Ahead of the the 2022 Municipal Budget, Mayor Christian Provenzano and CAO Malcolm White join SaultOnline/ONNtv’s Dan Gray for a virtual town hall where questions submitted by readers/viewers related to the upcoming budget decisions are posed and answered.

  1. Thanks to everyone for this informative session.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but what I heard the CAO say is that an increase in the price of your house will NOT cause your property taxes to rise. That’s good news. So I’m guessing the thing that causes our property taxes to rise is the amount of money our City Council spends?

And the other thing I think I heard from the Mayor is that the only way we will ever get lower taxes is if we get a significantly bigger population?

That can’t be the only way Mr. Mayor.

    What about spending less?
