After a competitive process involving a number of business submissions, UrbanFix Technologies Inc. has won the business pitch competition hosted by the Millworks – Centre for Entrepreneurship.

UrbanFix Technologies Inc., a tech start-up in Sault Ste. Marie, is a web/mobile based marketplace for local service providers that helps customers hire trusted professionals for all their service needs. Company owner Steeson Mathew took home the contest’s grand prize valued at $15,000. The runner up, John Findlay from Findlay’s Fungus, received the second place prize valued at $5,000.

The entrepreneurs participated in a pitch off, which was scored by audience voting and an expert panel of judges. Both firms earned their way to the finals following a competitive process involving over a dozen submissions from business owners across the Algoma District.

The pitch-off took place as part of the Bridges to Better Business event, an annual learning and networking forum hosted by the Millworks – Centre for Entrepreneurship. This year’s forum also featured a keynote presentation from Graham Sherman, co-founder of Tool Shed Brewing Company, who has been nominated as Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year, named as one of Calgary’s “top 40 under 40”, and has recently received the 2018 business in Calgary Leaders award.
