Patio Season

Given the long-range forecast and anticipated milder than usual fall weather, the City has extended the closing date for downtown sidewalk patios to expire on October 31. Patio furniture on City sidewalks may remain until this date.

Municipal approval is only required for patios on City property. Commercial patios on private property do not require municipal approval provided they are not in a yard that abuts a residential zone.

As COVID regulations are continuously evolving, conformity with municipal regulations will not exempt restaurants and bars from also complying with Provincial and other relevant agency regulations. As well, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) requirements under the Liquor Licence Act must be met.

  1. They don’t if they open it on their own property. Of course their insurance would go up to cover it. This is about more freebies for the business community by allowing them to use municipal property and if anything happens city insurance covers it. Want a patio for your business? Buy some property yourself, we’re sick and tired of subsidizing you.

  2. Very good. Lockdowns from top to bottom. We were getting bored of ripping on just Flip-flop Fatman and Drama Teacher for their less than worthless COVID responses.
