Original Story @ 6:01 a.m.
Shortly after 4 a.m. this morning, reports of heavy smoke started coming in to Sault Fire Services from an address in the downtown core.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered fire coming from a building in the 0-100 block of Elgin Street, across from the MPP’s office.
The business, which appeared to be medical related, has suffered significant damage from the fire.
Every available firefighter on shift was in attendance at the call and quickly had the fire under control.
Extra firefighters were called in to staff Pumper 5. This is done when it’s deemed a large enough event that another truck needs to be staffed in case of other calls in the city. Due to the minimum amount of firefighters on a shift (16), the firefighters who would be called in will be on overtime.
Elgin Street remains closed as of 6 a.m. this morning, both Queen and Bay Streets are passable.
Stay with SaultOnline for any further information regarding this fire as it becomes available.
There are far too many suspicious fires. I hope the detectives are busy looking for the nut that is lighting them.
Nothing in the story stated this fire was suspicious.
David, I’m sorry; every fire is suspicious till the fire marshal says otherwise.
Nice, more money for the fire gangsters who run this town!
I see where your going with this about the overtime and staffing, but reality is when they staffed additional staff they still called in an additional upstaff crew on overtime, so it’s an irrelevant fact…
john… I don’t know if it was Dan, or you, or the fire department… but someone here is stuffing the issue.
Given that I didn’t write the article specifically pointing out the overtime need and pointing out the “minimum” 16 staffing, certainly not “stuffing the issue” just pointing out the dig… usually journalists (excluding tabloid journalists) present the facts of the incident, not bringing in narrative unrelated…
Oh johnny… I’m a taxpayer, just fed up or seeing staff collecting six numbers salaries that I can’t even dream about… and all is done with the taxpayers money… everyone is stuffing the mattress with the taxpayers money… did you read about OLG, just today, after Ford sent in and auditing team… they found nothing! Just a CEO singing to the bank with 700K a year salary, and he’s here in the soo, among us… walking in wallymart, home depot and crappytire like you and me. You don’t wanna hear my opinion about the fire brotherhood, believe me.
A very nice property with style and solid construction. I hope they can restore it to it’s original beauty.
It sure is!
