Local amateur comedian tests the water this Friday

A local amateur comedian, Ben Albert, is looking to test the waters with an open mic evening this Friday at Tazzis Cafe. After being urged by friends and family to pursue his sense of humour, Ben started looking for venues who featured open mic events here in Northern Ontario only to discover there weren’t any.

When time permitted, he found himself travelling down to southern Ontario where he was able to get his feet wet in front of an audience and was hooked. “I started to doing stand-up in January of 2020 but quickly realized that there wasn’t any comedy scene anywhere in Northern Ontario. The closest open mic I could find was Barrie.”, said Ben. “So that’s why I put together an open mic here in Sault Ste Marie at Tazzis cafe.”

Ben is looking to attract other fellow amateur comedians for both this, and hopefully future events. “Northern Ontario has some of the funniest people in the world, there just isn’t anywhere for them to try [and] get out of there comfort zone and try stand up comedy.”, stated Ben. “So now people will have a place they can come have a few drinks, and watch stand up comedy, or even try it out themselves on a weekly basis.”

If you, or someone you know, would like to try out stand up comedy, text or call Ben at 705-849-5584 to add get on the set list or simply sign up upon arrival. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. this Friday at Tazzis Cafe, 478 Queen Street East, and with open mic starting at 9:00 p.m.

If you enjoy comedy and would like to support a local initiative, swing by for a beverage and a few laughs.
