Shortly after 2:30 p.m. SaultOnline was notified of a heavy police presence in the area of Old Garden River road, just north of Second Line.
Readers provided details to our reporter, noting Sault Police had 8 vehicles and multiple officers with heavy weapons drawn.
A local Algoma District School Board elementary school was put in to lockdown, ADSB Communications Officer Fran Walsh was quick to answer our inquiries about the incident.
“As a precaution, Tarentorus Public School was placed in a Hold & Secure briefly this afternoon while Sault Ste. Marie Police were managing a situation on Old Garden River Road,” said Walsh. “The situation was resolved and the Hold & Secure at Tarentorus PS was lifted, with school operations returning to normal.”
Multiple readers have told us St. Mary’s High School was also put into lockdown for the duration of the police event.
We have reached out to Sault Police Service for comment on what occurred prompting such a response.

Sault Police Services Communications Manager reached out to SaultOnline with an statement of what happened.
“It was nearby (the schools), There was report of a gun in the area, it’s been resolved peacefully with one man taken into custody,” said Louttit. “No injuries were reported and charges are pending, further info will be made available, probably tomorrow.”
