In Toronto, Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, holds a news conference to discuss the omicron variant of COVID-19 that was first detected in southern Africa.

The update comes one day after the province confirmed two cases of the coronavirus variant in Ottawa, both of which were reported in individuals who had recently travelled to Nigeria. These are the first confirmed cases of the omicron variant in Canada.
