Heavy snow squall activity is causing major headaches for travellers on Highway 17 between Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa Tuesday.

A line of heavy squalls have shifted north of Sault Ste. Marie impacting areas around Batchawana and Agawa Bay as of Tuesday afternoon.

SaultOnline.com has learned that visibility is greatly reduced . Ontario travel site 551on.ca is reporting partly covered snowpacked highways for most of the stretch with reduced visibility from Goulais to south of Wawa.

At this hour, Highway 17 remains open, as of 1:19pm Highway 17 is closed at Highway 563 at Batchawana.  It is advised to avoid travel if at all possible.

Snow squalls are expected to wind down by Tuesday night.
