A three-year deal to purchase fuel was met with questions before ultimately being approved at Monday night’s council meeting.
The deal, which saw McDougall Energy Inc. as the only bidder, sees them awarded a three-year contract to provide petroleum products to the City. The deal also includes two additional one-year-extensions, if the City is in agreement.
Councillor Paul Christian asked the City if anyone else could provide the service.
“I appreciate the quality of McDougall Fuels, and I certainly always want to shop local as much as possible. But are there any other suppliers when it comes to fuel and fuel delivery in the region/area/city?”, asked Christian.
Director of Public Works, Susan Hamilton Beach provided an answer to Christian.
“We have had a competitive process,” stated Hamilton-Beach. “Other years there have been others. But at this point in time, there was one tender receipt.”
Christian was happy with the answer but believes in order to get the best price it takes more than one bidder. He doesn’t doubt that McDougall will provide great service at a fair price, he just thinks it’s always best to have competition.

I thought the Cities Liberal MP’s were against using fossil fuels or was that just for it’s citizens.
