Celebrating its 75th anniversary serving Ontarians across the province, YNCU is the result of many mergers with credit unions whose histories stretch back to the 1940s. Among these financial institutions is Community First, recently referred to as a division of YNCU, which exclusively served the Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins communities prior to its amalgamation with YNCU in 2016. To better support the communities it serves more thoroughly and effectively in 2022 and beyond, YNCU is delivering all services under one brand.
By operating as a cohesive unit in southwestern and northern Ontario, YNCU will be able to realize efficiencies that will make advancements more seamless as the financial industry continues to rapidly evolve. Members can expect the same great service, with their financial needs met by the same knowledgeable and friendly staff, including local, personalized and cooperative financial services to individuals, businesses, and farms. Over the next year, the communities of Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins can expect to see the YNCU brand name on signage and advertising and through local sponsorships.
“Having been a member of Community First through its merger with YNCU, I can say I’ve been pleased with the transition,” says Marilyn Pasternak, a current member at YNCU. “You put a lot of trust in your financial institution. The nice thing is, I still see familiar faces and hear about YNCU supporting initiatives local to Sault Ste. Marie. I’m now a proud member of YNCU and look forward to its continued support in our community.”
Similar to the past five years, YNCU will also continue to support causes and initiatives that are truly local to Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins, including the upcoming Coldest Night of the Year Walk for St. Vincent Place, along with charitable donations to local soup kitchens, food banks, and shelters. YNCU is also sponsoring a community mural in Sault Ste. Marie during the Summer Moon Festival in June. The mural will be a lasting contribution on behalf of YNCU to the downtown neighbourhood where its Bay Street branch is located.
“Ever since we merged with YNCU, I’ve appreciated the collaborative opportunities that have come along with it,” says John Ziccarelli, Sault Ste. Marie native and Director of Credit and Business Services at YNCU. “Through this merger we’ve been able to better serve our members, grow our presence and strengthen our organization. Now it’s time we make it official and continue to grow together as YNCU.”
YNCU looks forward to continuing to offer its employees more opportunities for career development as it grows as an organization and increasing its impact in its northern communities. For more on YNCU, visit www.yncu.com.
