“Code Silver” called at Sault Area Hospital

Shortly after 6 p.m. last night, SaultOnline was alerted to a heavy police presence at Sault Area Hospital.

Upon further investigation we learned an individual inside the hospital was feared to be targeted and police were called to help Hospital security in securing the scene.

We reached out to Sault Area Hospital with what we knew and asked for comment.

Brandy Sharp Young, Manager of Communications for Sault Area Hospital gave this response to our organization earlier this evening.

“On Saturday, April 23, an incident occurred with a patient who attended the Emergency Department. The patient believed they were under threat from individuals from outside the hospital,” stated Sharp Young.

“A Code Silver was called in order to ensure the safety of patients and health care workers within the ED and throughout the hospital. Calling a Code Silver initiated our lockdown procedure and triggered a police response. SSM Police Services responded quickly, took charge of the scene and secured the hospital.  Once the police completed their investigation, an all-clear was called.”

She reiterated that they take all instances of violence seriously, and we take every precaution to protect our patients and health care workers.

We have reached out to Sault Police Services for comment on the situation and will bring that to you when it’s made available.
