A local grocery store had to close early while Sault Police surrounded a building in the central part of the city.

Shortly before 8 p.m. tips came into the newsroom from citizens stating police had a building familiar to them surrounded.

Upon arrival in the 600 block of Pine Street, officers were observed pointing rifles towards the door of 696 Pine and asking for an individual to come out.

Shortly after one individual was “taken into custody” and officers were observed entering the building after their apprehension.

Police closed Pine Street from McNabb Street, north past the Food Basics building while they contained the incident.

Food Basics across the street closed early due to the situation.

Sault Police Service Communications Officer Lincoln Louttit gave us this statement.

“Officers responded to a well-being check in the Pine Street area,” said Louttit. “One person was taken into custody without incident.”
