Vanderburg & Gagnon Coaches Award winners both plan to study nursing this fall

The annual memorial award will recognize and provide funds to two local athletes pursuing post-secondary education each year

The families of Kyle Vanderburg and Don Gagnon are pleased to announce the two winners of this year’s memorial award.

Brooke Brazeau and Milana Perri are the recipients of the inaugural award, which honour the legacies of Don and Kyle in support of future leaders who share the love of hockey for years to come.

Milana will be attending Ontario Tech University in September, studying Health Science and then Nursing.

“I am honoured to be chosen for the Vanderburg and Gagnon Memorial Award,” Milana said. “Hockey has been a big part of my life and my family’s for as long as I can remember.  Don Gagnon was a mentor and friend to me from when I started playing hockey.”

“Don holds a special place in my heart and I will do my best to make him, his family and the Vanderburg family proud,” said Milana.

Brooke will also be studying Nursing this fall, at Sault College.

“I am truly honoured and very grateful to be the recipient of this generous award from the Gagnon and Vanderburg families,” Brooke said.

Both recipients will continue to play hockey at the postsecondary level.

The two annual $750 awards in honour of Kyle and Don will be granted to two students with a passion for hockey who are entering their first year of university or college.
