Natural gas leak leads to evacuation on Albert St. East (update)


Update: traffic is now under control. Fire Services is releasing the scene to Enbridge. Police will be informed if there is reason to believe the gas meter was maliciously severed. Evacuation is over.

Residents traveling in the area of 270 Albert St. East are advised to stay out of the area as the gas meter has been sheered off and residents of nearby buildings are currently being evacuated.

Police and paramedics from EMS are currently being called.

Pedestrians and traffic should stay away from this area.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services are currently trying to handle the evacuation.

Firefighters have stated that “this is an emergency situation.”

Sault Transit was also advised to stay out of the area.
