The Fringe North Festival team are thrilled to announce that artist applications for this year’s festival are now open. This 4-day annual festival takes place every August in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, and includes theatre, music, dance, performance arts, storytelling, visual arts, and so much more. The 2023 Festival will include both live and digital presentations, and the uncensored, unjuried approach means audiences can anticipate shows that are bold, surprising, and unexpected.

Fringe Festivals were born out of the desire to celebrate and support artists whose work is non-traditional or still in development, while ensuring fair compensation for their work. Over 300 festivals happen around the globe each year, with Fringe North being one of only two Festivals located in Northern Ontario. Fringe mandates prioritize accessible, affordable arts experiences, where artists are provided with fully equipped performance spaces and receive 100% of all box office proceeds.

For those who want to participate, you need to know:
– Applicants are selected on a first-come-first-served basis

– Artists from all artistic disciplines are invited to apply.

– Can be live or digital presentations.
– Multilingual submissions are welcome. Translation and ASL supports are available.
– There is a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee (please note that if this amount presents a barrier for you, do reach out to Festival coordinators to discuss).
– Participation fees have been waived

– The Festival provides a minimum guaranteed income of at least $100.00 per production.

“There are so many opportunities for engagement this year” says Interim Artistic Producer Katelyn Townsend. “I’m very excited to have more time to work with artists, help inspire creativity, and support them in their work.” Artist Relations Coordinator Garrett Ryan is equally as enthusiastic about interacting with artists who participate in this year’s festival. “In 2022 I had the opportunity to work with a wonderful cohort of artists. I watched their amazing passion projects take shape and come to fruition at our festival. I am ecstatic to usher in a brand new slate of live and digital content, and can’t wait to begin this work once again.”

For those who are interested in participating but not quite sure how they fit, the Festival team encourages reaching out directly, as team members who are poised and ready to help shape each unique Festival experience. The same offer goes for anyone who needs support in completing the application process; while it is recommended to visit the Fringe North website for complete details and application package, anyone who requires assistance should call or email the team for support.
