EllisDon Facilities Services at Sault Area Hospital represented by Unifor1359 will stage a picket outside the Hospital on Wednesday.
Unifor1359 represents Maintenance Clerk/Dispatcher , Skilled Trades and Electricians at ElliDon who provides services to Sault Area Hospital. The workers have been working without a contract since October 2021. The union is urging the company back to the negotiating table and not to arbitration.
“Their wages should reflect what has been negotiated in their industry” said Laurie Lessard-Brown, Unifor National Representative. “We’ve asked the employer to return to the negotiating table but have not heard back from them”
The union has been trying to hammer out a new deal since July 2022. While workers are not subject to the Provincial Bill 124 wage restrictions, the company refuses to move from its offer of a 1% wage increase said Lessard-Brown.
“Our members work to ensure the hospital operates efficiently and quality patient care is performed in our community hospital” said, Cathy Humalamaki, President of Local Unifor 1359. “These workers deserve a living wage not the 1% the employer is offering”
Humalamaki says the company is facing retention and recruitment issues because it doesn’t pay industry standard wages.
The union and members will hold an information picket Wednesday morning in front of the Sault Area Hospital.
i may be wrong but isn’t the parking lot privately owned and operated?
They should give them a 20% increase. just take it out of the rediculous parking fees they scam out of patients and employees !!
