The group who protested COVID-19 measures locally are planning a protest at the Sault Ste. Marie Pubic Library this Weekend. Steve Hunter, founder of the Unity Centre located on Glen Ave, issued the following release today.

This Saturday, the Public Library will sponsor two cross-dresser/drag performers to read to children in a Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) event. This controversial DQSH movement, sprouting up in libraries across North America, has been strongly opposed by parents in many communities because the performers typically wear sexually-provocative garb, and target children with sexual messaging that can produce undue insecurity and confusion about whether they are boys or girls. This type of adult sexual performance should be restricted to clubs for 18+, not placed in children’s libraries.
Many concerned citizens believe this is highly inappropriate and well outside the envelope which we sometimes refer to as ‘community standards’. They plan to make their opinions known in an open demonstration at the library on Saturday.
There is an underlying concern in the community that children are being indoctrinated into a sexualized mentality that may cause confusion, influence their moral compass negatively, and blur the clear boundary that used to exist between sexualized adult behavior and children, thus endangering children as society “gets used to” seeing them being targeted with sexual messaging by grown-ups. This is akin to “grooming” on a societal scale.
Another objection is articulated by Anna Bohach of “500 Woman Strong”. “‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ is misogynist” she says. “Drag queens are very offensive to women. They are grotesque hyper-sexualized caricatures of women. They mock women and debase our womanhood and femininity. The promoters of the DQSH movement usually try to distract from the real dangers that exist with these hypersexual reading events for children by falsely labeling the parents and grandparents who oppose them as “hateful”. There is no hate whatsoever. Their concern is for the well-being of children who should not have any doubt about their sexuality being imposed on them by adult performers. With these false accusations, they dismiss out-of-hand the reasonable concern of parents whose instincts tell them this activity is a ‘red flag’ and who believe this is highly inappropriate in a public venue serving youth.
This event highlights another concern regarding the gender ID theory now being taught in schools. This library program is an extension of the school curriculum under the guise of anti-bullying and transgender acceptance. The Ontario government and educational bureaucrats have decided to paint all children with the same brush by teaching them to question whether or not they were born in the right body or teaching them that they can be any gender they choose. There is concern that this could cause unnecessary psychological issues such as gender dysphoria.
Steve Hunter, Unity Center, points out alarming statistics as presented on Action4Canada’s website. There is an increase of more than 4000% in girls who now say they identify as a boy since being exposed to the gender ID curriculum. This controversial agenda has also seen a 20% rise in suicides for those who transition, and transgender regret is exploding as many realize they were deceived into following this controversial path. Where do we draw the line? Who will take responsibility or accountability for a generation that may be affected by gender confusion, or the physical repercussions that may be irreversible with gender reassignment, before they reach adulthood?
On Saturday, the local citizens protesting the DQSH event will send the message that they do not want this type of hypersexual, gender-bending event targeting children to ever happen again in their community’s public library. Let’s put our KIDS FIRST.

I’m LGBTQ2+ and can tell you that my community is just as full of corruption and bullies as any other group.
I think the most illustrative part here is that some of the names that are forcing their pro-drag opinions on others also posted disparaging comments about the local cosplay group because they’re “grown adults dressing up in costumes pretending to be something they aren’t “.
Intolerance is Intolerance. Lots of virtue signaling going on.

I’m reminded of the words of the great poets, OMC. “How bizarre, bizarre” Drag story time is weird to me, but getting worked up about it is even weirder. I think these guys sit in the school and just pray for something that lets them paint protest signs. If I had to bring my kids to drag story time or Sister Mary Clare…. bring on the storybook.
Having a reading by a drag queen simply because they’re a drag queen is to me a very strange concept.
Usually the reader is a special noteworthy guest like an author or someone with a literary background.
The issue I have, from having seen a couple readings in person, is the very provocative and sexually garish outfits and makeup – it’s more suited to a Las Vegas 18+ show.
Secondly was the subject matter – the one reading wasn’t about tolerance and understanding but actually had sexually suggestive tones which felt so very wrong with children, almost predatory.
Yes sexuality & gender are things that children need to learn but why in such a sensationalized manner by someone who doesn’t seem qualified?
I feel like this reading is being pushed and pressured simply because it’s trendy.
I’m by no means a prude or bigot, being part of the LGBTQ2+ community myself but this doesn’t quite seem right to me.
