Charity Hockey Classic returns in support of Canadian Tire’s Jump Start program

Are you a fan of hockey?  Are you also a fan of children having access to the equipment needed to participate in organized sports, no matter the financial means in their households?
This weekend will give you the opportunity to indulge both of your interests, locally!
This weekend, starting on Friday, February 17th and running through Sunday, February 19th, the Charity Hockey Classic will be playing out at the John Rhodes Community Centre.  This tournament has been steadily building year by year for the last two decades.  Having supported various charities in the past, this year it is returning to support Canadian Tire’s Jump Start program.
The event coordinator, Albert Williams, visited our studio to share his enthusiasm for this annual event.  Admission to the tournament is by donation and every donation of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt.  The proceeds generated by this exciting event stays 100% local, although Albert was quick to point out that if a donation is made by cheque it must be made payable to Jump Start Sault Ste. Marie. Canadian Tire further ensures that the funds remain local by absorbing the administration costs.
If you are unable to attend but are still interested in supporting the cause, you are invited to make a donation online here or to simply call Albert at (705) 255-0094 and make arrangements for him to come and pick up your pledge.
Finally, if you are a high-school student in need of community hours or know of one, volunteer opportunities to support the event exist and once again, simply call Albert to indicate your interest.
