Demolition of the former Pennington’s store began over the weekend to make way for a new strip of retail space at the Northern Avenue Plaza .
The building was originally built for a Red Lobster location in the late 1980’s.
Stacked, is a breakfast chain that will occupy one of the planned retail units.
Stacked was started in Innisfil, Ontario in 2014 and has since expanded in the province with a number of locations. The restaurant serves home-made breakfast and lunch.
No other information is currently available on what other retail outlets will occupy the rest of the planned strip mall.
The construction of the new retail spaces is joined by other development on Great Northern Road this Spring. The Royal Canadian Legion apartment tower is currently under construction. When completed it will offer 107 apartment units mostly for veterans. The building will stand 9 floors and is expected to be completed for Spring 2024. The long-awaited Pino’s Plaza is currently starting work at the location between Second Line and Industrial Park Crescent. The $15 million dollar project will be home to a second Pino’s Grocery store as well as other retail outlets.
A new 7 floor apartment building is planned for the corner of Northern Ave and Great Northern Road. Trinty Towers will provide 57 apartment units as well as a new church.
The iconic A-Frame church built in the early 1960’s is planned for demolition in the upcoming months according to the Cara Community Corporation who owns and manages the property.
