Looking for a night out full of great food, and lots of laughs? You don’t have to know the classic 1950 Jimmy Stewart movie to appreciate Algoma Repertory Theatre’s production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “Harvey” by Mary Chase

“HARVEY” will Have You in Stitches

“Harvey” is the story of a perfect gentleman, Elwood P. Dowd (Marc Beaudette), and his best friend, Harvey, who everyone wants to meet. When Elwood begins introducing others to Harvey – a six-foot tall invisible rabbit – his socially invested and extremely embarrassed sister, Veta Louise (Nuala Kenny), and her daughter, Myrtle Mae (Katelyn Brienesse), want Harvey gone.

They conspire to commit Elwood to a sanitarium but, in a comedy of errors, Veta is committed instead. In the ensuing confusion, Dr. Chumley (James MacGlashan), Dr. Sanderson (Ryan Byrne), Veta, and Elwood all try to figure out who really is crazy— and whether the world needs another “normal” chap, or more Harveys.

The phenomenal cast is rounded out with featured performances by Brianna Niro, Steve Ancic, Penny Gribbon, Pirie Kaufman, Tim Bass and Sonya Ostrowski-Masotti.

Algoma Repertory Theatre would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing community for a wonderful inaugural season in 2019. We have only achieved the success we have because of the incredible support of our founding members (without whom we could not exist), members at large, sponsors and all of the individuals and volunteers that have contributed tirelessly.

Algoma Repertory Theatre (ART) is the brainchild of local theatre veterans Marc Beaudette and Sandra Forsell, who saw the opportunity to give a platform to more voices in the arts community, produce interesting and modern pieces, and to bring back the well-loved format of dinner theatre.

“I’ve been thinking about dinner theatre for a while now,” said Beaudette. “Something in the tradition of ‘Pull Chain Theatre’ or ‘Family Life Theatre’. Those two groups gave a lot to this community and we felt we could create something to fill the cultural void they left behind. Great food paired with top notch entertainment. We’ve assembled a dynamic team and are now ready to bring the concept back to the city.”
