Art Crawl will be a series of pop-up galleries in various downtown venues/locations during the 10 days of the Fringe Festival which will offer theatre, buskers and performance art. Websites of both organizations will have details of what will be happening where.

Fringe North International Theatre Festival co-founder and General Manager, Peter Rowe says, “This unique collaboration can transform Queen Street and the downtown core, including Gore Street, into a walking art gallery, interspersed with theatre events, street performers, artists and vendors. Vacant space can become a 10 day gallery exposition. Preliminary consultations with downtown businesses show strong support for the concept.”

Russ Raven, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Algoma, corroborated, “This has the potential of becoming an annual fund-raising event for the Arts Council. The theatre going demographic attracted by Fringe are art enthusiasts and reciprocally, art enthusiasts support theatre. Art Crawl will provide additional exposure for established Algoma artists and emerging artists to sell their art and it is envisioned that the two events will grow together over the years.”

Speaking on behalf of the Downtown Association, Executive Director Josh Ingram added; “This combined effort by two great community groups gives businesses an opportunity to participate and to benefit, and Art Crawl will help promote economic development, which is one of our association’s and the City of Sault Ste. Marie objectives.”
