    SHARING DANCE DAY 2019
~ SAULT STE. MARIE AND ALGOMA DISTRICT ~

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY

THE SHARING DANCE is choreographed dance piece commissioned through Canada’s National Ballet. This dance is accessible to everyone and encourages public participation in dance

    WHAT IS A SHARING DANCE?

For nearly a decade, Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) has commissioned an original piece of choreography and supports individuals and communities across the country to learn and perform the piece. NBS believes that everyone should have access to high-quality dance programs, encouraging people to engage artistically, and reap the health and social benefits that dance provides. NBS Sharing Dance program has been guided by artistic staff who create high quality material for this renowned Canadian dance training institution.

For Sharing Dance Day 2019, Canada’s National Ballet School commissioned Esie Mensah and Philippe Alexandre-Jacques to create choreography that explores how families, culture, and community influence our identity. These evolve over time, deepening and moving in different directions as they are affected by the elements around them. In the same way, our identity also evolves, grounded in that from which we’ve come, but also shaped and molded by the new experiences, new traditions and the communities through which we are welcomed and wander. These powerful interactions affect the core of who we are and help us forge new paths.

    COMMUNITY BENEFITS…
