    Digital Creator North

Digital Creator North – Sault Ste Marie  (DCN SSM) is a new initiative for youth ages 13 – 19 housed in the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library’s Centennial Branch. Sault Ste. Marie is one of six locations across Northern Ontario chosen for the Digital Creator North project.

Digital Creator North is a teen-only digital media lab 🙂

“Carrying that summer spirit of fun into September, Digital Creator is switching to an after-school schedule. Teens are welcome to come hangout after school to hangout, work on their own creative projects, play xbox or boardgames, read, make art, or work on school projects using our awesome digital media equipment. As always our space is FREE and open to teens ages 13 – 19. We’ll have snacks at our workshops and xbox nights too.
Hope to see you soon @ Digital Creator North !!”

The Digital Creator North SSM space is meant for teens to do what teens want – including gaming and eating snacks in our comfy gaming area. Our space is equipped with a bunch of high-end digital media equipment that is reserved just for teens – including the full Adobe Creative suite, photo, video and audio equipment, an Xbox One, Mac computers and an iPad with an Apple Pencil (and more)!

Bring a friend and record a movie or mess-around on photoshop. If you’re not sure how to use something there’s always help around!

We will have daily drop-in hours in our space at the Centennial Library downtown, and we will also have weekly events such as work- shops, art-making, video-game and movie nights. Bring your own snacks, except on gaming night where snacks will be provided. (check the Schedule to find out when!)

Digital Creator North (DCN) spaces are intended to inspire creative experimentation, digital literacy, peer networking, connected learning, and community engagement through the use of media arts disciplines. The project is aimed at bringing a positive cultural impact to Northern communities by increasing participation in the media arts sector. Workshops and use of the space is free, and housed downtown in the public library for low-barrier access.

DCN SSM offers teens equipment, software and mentorship in various disciplines including but not limited to digital photography, video production, illustration/animation, audio recording, graphic design and coding. Through both structured programming (scheduled activities or workshops) and unstructured drop-in hours (open studio) the DCN space is geared towards providing a safe, open space to facilitate interest-driven learning and creation.
