ART X PROJECT ~ Call Out for Local Artist’s! Upcoming ART X Exhibit in April
The ART X PROJECT
Presented by Rolling Pictures, The Downtown Association and the City of Sault Ste. Marie/Future SSM.
CALL FOR ARTISTS
Apply: March 9th – 17th, 2021
SECOND ART X PROJECT Arts & Culture Exhibition
Artists who are trying to pursue a full time career in the arts are encouraged to submit their biographies and a small sample of work.
The Art X Project was conceived by the partners as a way to support local early career inter-disciplinary artists by providing opportunities to display their work in a public space, gain experience in exhibition development, network with other local artists and build their portfolios, generate revenue and commission work and develop followings and public/media attention through the associated marketing of the project (both traditional and digital); while at the same time attracting local and visiting audiences into the downtown core.
The Art X Project launched its first exhibition Nov 5, 2020 with an opening night that spread over two days. The Arts & Culture Exhibition was viewable to the community for the entire month of November 2020 and featured featured visual art from local artists Mark Grandinetti, Annie King, Aaron Alessandrini and Musical Stylings from Ava Nori.
The ART X PROJECT is an on-going, interdisciplinary Arts & Culture exhibition located at the Rolling Picture’s downtown facility. Selections for upcoming exhibitions will be representative of the diverse communities that SSM enjoys.
Artists may apply now for any of the upcoming shows in 2021 🙂
Artists can apply to the contact below from Tuesday March 9, 2021 to Wednesday March 17, 2021. If you are a local artist who would be interested in participating in this project, please e-mail and send a link or attach your current bio/portfolio and related details to Robert Pearce, Rolling Pictures Director Community Relations:
“Our last show was a huge success, says Rolling Pictures Community Relations Director Robert Peace. We held a Covid friendly, ticketed and timed event that drew hundreds of people over the course of the months of November and December. “We filmed biographies for each of the artists and helped them establish online stores with the Chamber of Commerce. Guests visited for 1 hour and were treated to live music, artist discussions and complimentary snacks and beverages”.
“The project supports these early career artists greatly by providing an opportunity for them to add exhibition credits to their resumes which will help them to achieve the “professional” artist designation (as defined by provincial government and their arts funding bodies) which will in turn enables them to apply for funding at all levels of government helping them on their way to career growth and sustainability”, says Arts & Culture Coordinator, Future SSM Todd Fleet.
“The Downtown Association is excited to be involved with the next Art X exhibition. These events provide another opportunity for artists to showcase their work while providing guests an opportunity to experience all that our downtown has to offer”, says SSM Downtown Association Salvatore Marchese.
“ The DTA is always looking for opportunities to provide more events and programming in the downtown core, while connecting membership with local artists/musicians. Arts and Culture are critical to make Downtown a vibrant place to be. We are pleased to work with neighbours Rolling Pictures, FutureSSM and local Artists for the Art X Project”. says SSM Downtown Association Ashlyn McMillan
