The Bored Room activities are hosted on the Zoom platform. Occasionally, the sessions are live streamed on social media. Room activities will include talking about gaming, making a craft, baking, music, or any topic of interest to the youth.
Algoma youth ages 13-18 are welcome to these free events
Youth can participate in virtual activities, social opportunities, and join events held by local guest speakers such as creators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries. The sessions are one to two hours long and are open to any youth ages 13 to18 in the Algoma region.
Each hub session is run by both a facilitator and co-host (staff, volunteer or student intern) to maximize the opportunities for participants to connect.
Bored Rooms with an emphasis on the open chat option are monitored and all spaces are regulated by a moderator from Northern Youth Services. As an extra support, crisis services are on standby from Sault Area Hospital.
Bored Room Guidelines
- BE KIND AND COURTEOUS We are in this together to co-create a welcoming environment. Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, and kindness is required.
- NO HATE SPEECH OR BULLYING Diversity is at the heart of a healthy environment. Bullying or micro-aggression of any kind isn’t allowed, and degrading comments about race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
- NO PROMOTIONS OR SPAM Avoid self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links.
- RESPECT AND PRIVACY Being a part of an online community requires mutual trust, while recognizing that this is a public group activity. Sensitive and private information should not be shared. Ideally, what’s shared in the group should stay in the group.

The Northern Outlet is a virtual space for youth to connect, learn, and create. A safe place for youth ages 13-24 to hang out. The Outlet works to provide local youths with a safe, virtual environment where they can connect, interact and play.
The onset of the COVID 19 pandemic has increased the barriers to therapeutic recreational and educational activities for people living in Garden River First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, Sault Ste Marie and the Algoma region. Although, there has been an advancement in the delivery of new digital spaces, the safety of those platforms is often unknown. At The Outlet, we place our focus on transparency and safe spaces.
Our Bored Rooms are equipped with skilled moderators from the Northern Youth Centre. We bring our users direct access to local supports with Sault Area Hospital Crisis Services on stand by.
Our commitment to privacy, respect and safety are paramount to all other activities. We hope to bring our youths an opportunity to connect, create and showcase their talents in this dynamic, digital space.
