This Year We Are Going Virtual!
Physical distancing is the reality for the foreseeable future, and so we are re-imagining the Run as an exciting virtual experience.
We invite YOU to VIRTUALLY run or walk with us on Sunday, October 4th, 2020 for the CIBC Run for the Cure in Sault Ste. Marie.
On Run Day, Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma residents are invited to join our live-streamed online opening ceremonies before heading out to walk or run in their neighbourhood.
The opening ceremonies will be livestreamed on Canadian Cancer Society’s Facebook and YouTube channels at 11:30 a.m. and will be hosted by Jully Black, the award-winning singer-songwriter dubbed Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul.
Black has partnered with the Run to cheer on participants and supporters, and to empower all Canadians affected by breast cancer to never stop running. Viewers can also expect a high-energy warm-up and powerful performances from Barenaked Ladies, Jess Moskaluke and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.
It will include all the best things about Run Day
- Connecting with your teammates,
- An inspirational opening ceremony and a high-energy warm-up – as well as new features like the ability to create and customize your own avatar,
- Fundraise to unlock rewards, and track your steps through our refreshed app or the Run website.
We’ll organize the fun online and you’ll have the option to bring together a small group of family and friends to run or walk as part of your at-home celebration 🙂

The CIBC Run for the Cure was created in 1992 by a small group of volunteers began a movement in Toronto’s High Park. That day they brought together 1,500 people to raise awareness and $85,000 for breast cancer. This marked the beginning of what was to become Canada’s largest single day, volunteer-led event in support of the breast cancer cause, the CIBC Run for the Cure. Today, the event has over 80,000 participants and raises $16 million annually in communities across Canada.
